I am so particular about Botswana because every single time I visit the country, it feels like the first. And every single time, there is something new to see. To get the best of Botswana, you have to cruise through its most beautiful cities and towns. Here are some of the 10 most beautiful places in Botswana.
1. Francistown
As a personal favorite, I have to be biased and put this at the very top of the list.
This city has so much history swarming around it. During the first gold rush of the Southern African countries, this place was leading. This town was nicknamed the Ophir of Africa. And it has proven itself to be just that.
Although there are so many abandoned mines in the city, it has become a booming commercial hub. So many resources have been invested into this to make it the world-class city it is today.
The best part? There are unending sights to see in this bubbly city. The Tuli block, for instance, has wildlife reserves and bushmen sights, amongst many other interesting things. In addition to being one of the most beautiful places in Botwana, Francistown offers a delectable culinary experience like no other!
2. Gaborone
Being the capital of the country, this city is brimming with activities and sights. If you have ever heard of the Gaborone game reserve and wondered where it was, it is right in this city.
This reserve has been known to be a safe haven for endangered species and migratory birds! It gets more exciting. Here, you would see real-life giraffes, wildebeests, and rhinoceros.
This city also holds some of Botswana’s cultural heritage. In the very center of the city is the National Museum and Art Gallery.

3. Maun
If you know anything about Botswana, it is very possible you have heard about Maun. This small riverside town is one of the most popular and beautiful places in the country. This place is one big paradox because, first off, it is still officially a village.
Despite this fact, it has all the amenities a city does. Malls, hotels, parks, and even wildlife reserves! Just so you know, Maun is the leading tourism center of Botswana. It’s a great place to invest in if you ask me. While visiting here, you do not even have to worry about transportation. There are car hire services all around the city.
4. Serowe
Known as the birthplace of so many Botswanan presidents, this little but charming town holds so much of the history of the Botswanan people. Serowe is known to be the third-largest village in the country.
I think this place is really beautiful because of its traditional setting. The houses here are round and very African. Agriculture thrives in this place mostly because of the large expenses of free land and cattle pastures.
One of the very best hospitals in Botswana is in this town.

5. Jwaneng
This town was very exclusive and quite secure, too. As the story goes, they owned the richest diamond mines in the world.
To stay there, you needed special permission from the people who owned the mines.
It all makes sense when you think of what the name of the town means. “A place of small stones”. If I were to ever live in Botswana, this place would be my best bet. In Jwaneng, there is a game park that houses over 1,700 animals. Quality healthcare is available because there is a hospital, and also, they have an airport—the perfect combo.
6. Shakawe
At the very entrance of Botswana is Shakawe. This village is in the northwestern region of the country. The major tourist attraction in this village is the Tsodilo hills. These hills are a well-recognized world heritage site.
It is believed that the ancestral spirits of the nation dwell amongst those rocks. They say these ancestors used to perform rain-calling rituals there. Here, there are unique rock arts. To this day, people cannot fully unravel the mystery of those sacred rocks.
One of these days, if you visit Botswana, do not pass by without paying those ancestral rocks a visit.
7. Bobonong
Although it is not one of the most popular towns in Botswana, it is one of the up-and-coming cities. If you are in for serenity, then this place is for you. It is worth visiting. In this place, there is an endless list of new things you can do. In Bobonong is the Mashatu Tent Camp. This nature reserve is one place that would be in the closet with nature. If birdwatching is your thing, you can wander in the woods during the day and build a campfire at night. What better way is there to bond with family than while roasting marshmallows around a fire?
